Rao Meera Singh

There was a rustling noise in the Rao's mansion. Servants were on their toes to make sure they didn't make any mistakes. The mansion was decorated beautifully with flowers and curtains while three elders were busy with their talks sitting on the couch, keeping an eye on all the arrangements.

"Why would such a big family choose her?" Sunaina put forth her concern.

"We don't need to worry about that. The only thing we care about is that we finally going to get rid of her." Kamini Devi said looking at the door and waiting for their arrival.

"We have to make sure this relationship doesn't get out of our hands. If our name gets connected to theirs, we are gonna swim in money." Prashant said leaning back on the couch.

"Dad is right. Relation with them means profit not just in business but in class also." Vishal said coming downstairs.

Soon, their talks were cut short when they heard a doorbell indicating the arrival of their most awaited guest.

Clad in a yellow anarkali suit, silver jhumkas dangling from her ear, a black bindi between her small kajal-adorned eyes, soft pink lips, yellow velvety bangles clinking on her wrist, a tiny sound coming from her anklets as she was moving across the room in nervousness while trying to adjust her dupatta.

Anarkali suit

"I am scared." A sweet honey-like like voice said "Why would they choose me? I am nothing in front of their son." She said with her chest heaving up and down in nervousness.

"Relax Meera!! You are so beautiful. Why would you even think such a thing? They are going to love you." Anu said trying to boost her sister-in-law's confidence.

"We both know the truth Bhabhi," Meera said as her face changed from nervous to blank in an instant.

Their talks were cut short as the door was knocked and opened soon by a maid.

"Guests have arrived mam. Sir has asked for you to come downstairs with Meera mam." The maid said looking down with her hands bound together and kept formally on her stomach.

Anu nodded at her and the maid left soon.

Anu went to Meera and held her hand in hers "Let's go, Meera. Remember, whatever happens, happens for good." She said and her feet moved with Meera's while she just nodded.

As Meera was descending downstairs with Anu, her mind went back to the news she heard 3 days before.

Meera came home from her college when she found her whole family sitting on the couch waiting for her. She looked at them and her heart raced a mile per hour seeing the look on their face. She knew some big news was coming her way.

"We got another proposal for you. They are coming this Sunday to meet you." Prashant, her tauji said. (Tauji – Father's brother).

"You better not destroy it this time. Or I am going to get you to marry some old drunkard." Kamini Devi spits out such a harsh word on her granddaughter.

Meera's heart sank on hearing the old lady. She never knew why they all hated her but listening to such words from her family every time breaks her.

Meera didn't have the courage to ask anything about the family that was coming to see her. She felt a stinging pain in the back of her throat. She just nodded her head conveying her message and went to her room.

It was 10 at night, she was working on her laptop when she heard a knock on her room. She stood up hastily from her bed and hid her laptop under the bed as no one knew at her house about the laptop she got from her scholarship.

She ran quickly to open the door when she again heard the knock and opened the door. She saw her bhabhi standing outside with a smile on her face and an envelope in her hand.

She moved aside inviting her bhabhi inside her room. Anu entered the room and looked around and her smile faded seeing how the only girl of this house was living in a store room basically. She turned back at Meera with a smile who gave her a small smile in return.

Before they both could exchange some words, a loud voice of Vishal calling Anu startled Meera making her almost jump.

"I am sorry. Your brother is calling I have to go." Anu said with a guilt-stricken face "But I actually came here to give you this." Anu said putting an envelope in her hand and leaving in a hurry.

Meera looked at the envelope and then at the back of Anu who was fading from her eyes as she was running towards her room. Her eyes traced back to the envelope and she went to sit on her bed not before shutting the door close.

She tore the envelope open in anticipation of what might be there. As she emptied the contents of the envelope her heart stopped at the same moment. A photo of the most gorgeous man she had ever seen fell from the envelope. She took the photo in her hand gently making sure to not form any crease on it. The big light amber eyes, cheeks hidden with light stubble on his face, a sharp jaw that could tear anything, and long hair tied in a bun. He had everything on his face she ever wanted in her man.

Is he the man she is going to marry? And she suddenly felt ugly.

She took the paper that was under the envelope. And the content she read made her eyes go wide in shock.

She came out of her thoughts when she heard a voice calling her to sit beside them.

She looked up and saw new faces which she had only seen once in that envelope with that man whose beauty resembled her lord Krishna, sitting on the couch with her family looking directly at her with a smile on their face. Although her family's smile was fake, the smile those unknown people were giving looked genuine to her.

"Go and sit beside her," Anu whispered in her ear and she noticed a woman patting the space beside her.

Meera just looked down with nervousness and moved towards the lady while fumbling with her hands hidden well under her dupatta.

As she sat beside the lady, the lady put her hand under her chin making her look up at him with utmost care and gentle touch.

Meera felt nervous as she realized that lady was going to observe her face which had some scars of her acne but the next word she heard shocked her making her look up at the lady in an instant.

"My son is so lucky to marry such a beautiful girl like you," Rashmi said looking at the girl sitting in front of her.

Meera didn't believe her words and she knew that they were just saying it to be polite and soon reject this proposal once they go back home.

"Thank you." She said in her tiny voice.

"Oh My God!! She has such a beautiful voice." A manly voice full of excitement said out loud.

Meera looked up at the source of the voice and found a boy of her age looking at her with sheer excitement on his face. Meera's eyes quickly went through the hall and she found no other man of her age except him and her mind started overthinking.

But this isn't the man I saw in the photo. Was that a fake picture? Did they cheat even before the relationship started?

Her mind stopped overthinking on hearing Rashmi's voice "We should introduce your bhabhi to everyone Shivansh. And later you could compliment her as much as you want."

Bhabhi ??? oh, he is my brother-in-law. But wait!! Where is my soon-to-be husband then?

Soon, she got to know about this family which has a grandfather Pratap Singh Yaduvanshi who couldn't join them due to his illness, her mother-in-law Rashmi, and her father-in-law Rajveer who somehow looked familiar to her. The younger brother of Rajveer, Darsh, and his wife Anika.

She also got to know that the man who just complimented her was her brother-in-law. And he has one more brother-in-law who is the son of Anika and Darsh, Abhishek who couldn't join them today due to some work. And a sister-in-law Revati who was looking at her without batting her lashes for the past few moments making Meera sink back in her seat.

"Why don't I look so beautiful in traditional??" Revati said finally after goggling at her soon to be sister in law making Meera blush at her statement.

And soon the talks between the families started. The younger ones of Yaduvanshi family tried to talk to Meera who was too shy to utter words and just answered with nods and smiles. Their attention was soon gotten by Rajvver.

"My father wanted to talk to Meera before we say something about this relationship," Rajveer said looking at her family.

"We don't have any problem but how Maharaj would talk............" Kamini Devi tried to say but was cut short by Rajveer.

"If you could provide us a room. I'll video call him and he can talk to Meera there. And we want some privacy there. We don't want anyone there except Meera, Rashmi, and me." Rajveer said in an authoritative tone. It sounded like he was not asking but ordering.

Prashant stood up and bowed in front of him leading them to a room. Meera stood up and followed them. As they reached the room, Rajveer looked around the room with his pierced gaze and locked the room.

He opened the laptop and soon connected with Pratap Singh Yaduvanshi.

"Dad, she is here," Rajveer said and signaled Meera to come in front of her laptop.

Meera nodded and sat on the couch as Rajveer moved aside.

Meera looked at the screen and saw an old man with hollow cheeks, pale eyes, and an IV attached to his body but still, there was a faint smile playing on his lips.

Meera joined her hands "Pranam, Maharaj" She said looking down when she heard blessings from the other side.

"Meera beta, we don't want to hide anything from you before starting this sacred bond." He said which intrigued Meera's attention.

"Your dadaji and I were best friends. And I promised your dadaji to marry my grandson with you." He said making Meera's eyes go wide.

"There is no pressure over you if you want to back out of this relationship but I just wanted to let you know my grandson was chosen by your grandfather for you." The old man said with some longing in his eyes.

This was a piece of news for Meera which she was maybe not ready to hear.
